This month we recognize Janeen Oliver of Catalina Pacific, a CalPortland Company, as WiOPS’ June 2017 Member of the Month! Janeen is a Sr. Ready Mix Sales Representative. When asked how long she’s been in the industry she exclaims “12 officially, though I grew up in/around the ready mix industry. I’m 4th generation- my great-grandfather was a concrete contractor who opened a ready mix batchplant which was later owned and operated by my grandfather; my dad followed suit, opening his own ready mix business with his sister and operated it for 25 years. Some like to say concrete is in my blood! I joined the family business full time in 2005, though I learned a lot from dinner table conversation and family gatherings throughout my childhood!”
Her colleagues would describe her as passionate, thoughtful and outgoing. She certainly is all of those things. In addition to her contributions to WiOPS, she’s an active member of NAWIC Orange County Chapter and ACI SoCal Chapter. She also participates in WCOE, AGC CLC, SCCA, and ECA meetings and events. She loves construction because she loves the juxtaposition of the industry- large but somehow small (everyone seems to know each other), scientific yet creative, old school methods with new school technology, and always thinking ahead while drawing from past experiences. What she doesn’t love is when people refer to concrete as cement! She declares “I’ve been educating people on the difference since I was about 4 years old, haha! For those that don’t know, cement is to concrete as flour is to cake- i.e. cement is the binder in concrete mix.”
She certainly loves construction but she also loves spending time with her big Dutch family, wine tasting in Santa Ynez Valley and Temecula, and going to concerts.
