February 2019 – Andrea Umali

Our WiOPS Member of the Month for February 2019 is Andrea Umali. She’s a project engineer for McCarthy Building Companies, Inc and lives in Costa Mesa, CA. She was originally a Civil & Environmental Engineering Major but it wasn’t until days after she did a parking structure job walk, and her friends were giving her funny looks about being so stoked about a parking structure, that she realized she belonged in the construction industry. Her passions aligned when her first project with McCarthy turned out to be a parking structure. Her favorite things about construction are “the feeling of being behind the scenes on a project along with the opportunity to learn something new every day.” She’s strong on and off the jobsite. The photo in this article shows her geared up for welding at McCarthy’s 2018 SoCal Yard Day, an event dedicated to building relationships and enhancing hands-on skills with the trade experts. She’s also a member of the UCLA Women’s Rugby Alumni Association.
