As we enter a new year and new decade, we reflect on our organization and our members. We are grateful for everyone’s contributions and involvement. The WiOPS Member of the Month campaign allows us to show our appreciation for exceptional women in our industry.
Our WiOPS Member of the Month for January 2020 is Haley Hernandez. She entered the workforce at a manufacturing facility and from there heard about ISEC. She enjoys working there because she finds that the people are wonderful and passionate about what they do. Haley is currently working on the UCI Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Building (ISEB) but notes that the UCR MRB1 was her favorite project since it had a lot of challenges. She notes that “with any challenge comes a chance to overcome it. Working onsite alongside the field staff and general contractor helped me develop my skills and broaden my scope of knowledge.” She also loves that at the end of a project there is a feeling of accomplishment and excitement that whenever she passes a project or she’s talking to someone new that she can point to a project and say, “I helped build that.” Outside of the office, Haley can be found running. It’s her favorite hobby. She started running when she was in college and found that it’s the thing that she can always turn to if she ever needs a break from whatever life throws at her. She’s an active WiOPS member and says that it is “an amazing organization that has helped shape my career by giving me the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with my coworkers outside of the office as well as other women in the industry that I may have never met or talked to without it.””
We thank Michelle Keyser for leading the WiOPS Member of the Month campaign for the last three years. We welcome Haley into the role and look forward to continuing to showcase our members.
