Congratulations to Kim Tomberlin for being nominated as the Member of the Month for August!

Kim has been in construction since 2003. Right out of college, she started making custom furniture which evolved into a side business. As her interest in construction grew, she pushed herself to learn more and do more – and that she did. She became a residential estimator, then a project engineer in tenant improvement, then a field superintendent building schools, then a manufacturer’s representative. In 2017, she made a typical sales call to Orange County WinWater Works, and unexpectedly, the company president offered her a position! Currently Kim is a Project Manager at Orange County WinWater Works.

What Kim values about WiOPS is coming to an event and seeing a room full of women of all facets of the industry – from laborers to executives. Being inclusive is extremely important to Kim. Previously as a field superintendent, she was an anomaly. She says, “It just makes me really proud that we have evolved to this, and really the sky is the limit. In an industry where it’s 90% men, we are making a huge impact and that’s important.” She explains why she likes construction: “It’s changing every day; it’s never the same. As long as you’re willing and open. Every day I learn something new…That’s what I need as an individual – to be constantly learning.” Aside from home improvement projects, Kim enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family.
