“The right guidance can completely change someone’s trajectory.”

Join us in celebrating our August 2026 WiOPS Member of the Month, Brittany Lawton. Brittany is a sales executive at AD/S.

She started in plastic distribution and AD/S was one of her clients. She did a presentation for their sales team and the sales manager loved her so much he said “we need to hire her!” and she’s been with AD/S ever since!

She loves that in construction her days are never the same. She learns something new every day. She says that she’s surprised by how much she loves the industry. In her adulthood, she would never had guessed that she would have wanted to work in construction. She didn’t know how much opportunity the construction industry can offer to all types of people with varying skillsets.

She appreciates that WiOPS brings so many women and men together to meet all different types of people and trades within construction. She also thinks that it opens doors for people to try new things and see other possibilities outside of their organizations.

Throughout her career, she’s seen firsthand how the right guidance can completely change someone’s trajectory and her own mentors have played a pivotal role in shaping who she is today. She is intentionally developing her mentorship skills because she wants to give back. She wants to help colleagues uncover their strengths, build their confidence, and encourage them to take on new, challenging opportunities that stretch their capabilities.

Brittney’s best advice is “Don’t be afraid to ask questions!” Throughout her career, asking the right questions has been one of my greatest tools for winning projects. There is a common misconception that speaking up or seeking clarity makes you look like you don’t know what you’re talking about. In reality, the opposite is true. She is often the only person asking questions during pre-bid meetings and job walks, and it consistently sets her apart. It shows the client that she is engaged, thorough, and paying close attention. “Your questions don’t just demonstrate your expertise, they often bring critical details to light that the client hadn’t even thought about yet.”
