“If you are going to regret not doing something, then why would you not do it?”

Why did you join WiOPS?

I joined WiOPS to connect with others in the construction industry. I wanted to meet other like-minded individuals and build relationships and mentorships outside my company. WiOPS has connected me with ladies who I now have personal and professional relationships which I appreciate greatly.

How did you get involved/started in construction/your role?

I started in Architecture before construction. I took Architecture classes in High school and worked for an architecture firm in my Hometown for 4 years before switching into construction. Once I switched, I actually did a more blended role of VDC and Project Engineering before working full time as a Project Manager.

What is your favorite thing about construction?

Everyday holds something new from a new project to a new issue and I enjoy seeing what each day becomes. I also enjoy the tangibility of my work going into something you can see and interact with on a day to day basis.

What advice would you give a young woman entering the industry?

Don’t be afraid to be who you are. Construction can be intimidating as a male dominated field but there are so many people who have been in your shoes and are there for you. You will find mentors in many different aspects of your career and come ready to ask any questions.

What makes you proud of working in the construction industry?

I am proud of the work we do. I work in a Science and Technology Small Projects team which could see projects as small as installing 20 feet of lab casework to full lab buildouts. It’s really rewarding to know our work will impact someone’s day to day work and possibly affect my own life in the future.
