Don’t be afraid to ask questions and speak up, especially early in your career. There is so much to learn in construction and being curious and proactive goes a long way.
Join us in celebrating our February 2026 WiOPS Member of the Month, Ryanna Makdissy. Ryanna is a project engineer at Snyder Langston.
She studied Business Management at San Diego State University. While in school, she took a few Construction Management courses and quickly found the field fascinating. Those classes introduced her to how dynamic and impactful the construction industry can be, which led her to pursue a career in it. Her favorite thing about construction is seeing a project come together from start to finish. “Being part of something tangible that will last and serve a real purpose is incredibly rewarding.” Entering the industry, she was surprised by how collaborative it is. There are so many teams, trades, and individuals working together to solve problems every day, and the constant communication makes each project a true team effort.
She values the sense of community and support WiOPS provides. “It creates opportunities to learn from others, build meaningful connections, and feel encouraged as a woman growing her career in construction.” In July 2025, she attended a WiOPS event, “Girls Just Wanna Weld.” This event was hosted by Schuff Steel and there were opportunities for hands on welding demos! She was so excited about this opportunity to bring together materials and people. She met with both new and familiar faces through this networking event. This dynamic gathering served as both an educational and interesting setting to share experience and build professional relationships.
