National Women’s History Month has been observed during March every year in the United States since 1987. This celebration started nine years earlier as ‘Women’s History Week’ in Santa Rosa, California, to amplify women’s contributions to American history and culture. When we look at the timeline of the commemoration of the achievements of women in the U.S., it’s only fitting that Women in Construction Week was first declared in 1960, almost 30 years before the declaration of National Women’s History Month – to build a foundation for celebration of all women across occupations and industries.
At AGC of California, we are particularly excited about this year’s Women in Construction Week and have some special plans. We are passionate about developing the current and future workforce of the construction industry. We strive to do that by helping our members build an inclusive and safe culture where everyone feels valued. We invite you to join us as we celebrate Women in Construction Week 2022!
Women’s History Educational Resources
AGC of California is proud to observe Women’s History Month and Women in Construction Week during March every year. To help our members celebrate Women’s History Month, AGC of California and the DEI Steering Committee have put together learning resources for companies to utilize in support of education and workforce development.
Panel Discussion of Women Supporting Women
On March 8, 2022, International Women’s Day, AGC of California’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Forum will host a panel of trailblazers from organizations supporting women in construction including the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Women in Construction Operations (WiOPS), Women Construction Owners & Executives (WCOE), and Tradeswomen. We’ll explore what actions companies and industry-at-large can take to go beyond the pink hardhats and attract, retain, and develop women leaders in construction. Register today to reserve your spot.
Installation of AGC’s 2022 President Dina Kimble
Dina Kimble has been elected as AGC of California’s first female president. This historic event celebrates the amazing work of a construction professional who has dedicated her life to an industry she loves and wants to see thrive into the future. This moment is a necessary shift for the association to show that women belong in every conversation and at every level within our industry. Unfortunately, women only make up about 9% of our construction workforce. We have a long way to go to improve representation in our industry and to develop and cultivate female leaders like Dina. We’re celebrating the installation of our President and Officers at our 2022 Installation & Awards Gala on March 11 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, and we invite you to join us and keep moving forward with a renewed commitment to transforming our industry together.
